Thank God, for wake up calls.
Life is a mysterious thing, isn’t it? You never know what to expect, and you never know just how its all going to play out. Yet, even with all this uncertainty, we all seem to waste so much time. I realized that I was doing just this. I needed a change, a new direction. I need new friends, a new life- A new me. Though, the question remains… How does one suddenly obtain all of these things? I’ll tell you. They don’t. At least not right away. Many people give up so quickly because they don’t see instant results. We were raised in the generation of fast food and fast cars. Everything has been automatic and produced for us so quickly, that when it is time to do something for ourselves, that actually requires time ( weight loss, school, work. ), we shy away from it so quickly and wrap ourselves back in our cocoon of laziness.
So you may ask- Where should I begin… Hmmm… Where to begin? Well, you first must take the first step. Think of it as exploring- your future. List all the things you like to do and those things you WISH you could do. Then list all the things you want out of life- Happiness, travel, wealth, family, control, security? Based on what you want out of life, you should be able to match a few things that can get you there. Then pick a few schools or trades that meet your criteria. Lets say you want to be a writer (Fiction, newspaper, journals), go meet an admissions counselor at one of your local colleges. They can tell you what programs would be available to get you where you want to go/be. You may not select school, but at least you KNOW! Does not cost you a cent, only time.
You may select something that does not require schooling, so find someone who is doing that work and ask them if they have time to talk to you about it. Use the yellow pages! People love to talk about themselves and what they do. Having a young person interview them makes them feel important and validates what they do! Have fun with it- the more you know, the more control you have (we all want control of our lives).
And remember, what you put into it is what you get out. Not everyone, in fact, very few people a born with silver spoons. Most people work their tail off to get where they are. Nothing is free, and most of the work to get there is boring as all hell.
Just take that first step, the momentum will carry you forward, and once the momentum gets up to speed, DO NOT LET ANY OBSTACLE GET IN YOUR WAY. Go around or over it - or quite frankly, blow it up.
That’s all for now Journalists.
